synthetic-arena

A Rust and Bevy multiplayer engine where human browser clients and AI agents are the same kind of participant, so the server cannot tell them apart. Netcode over WebTransport with lightyear.

synthetic-arena is a multiplayer engine in Rust and Bevy built around one architectural rule: the server cannot tell a human from an agent.

Every connected player is a Participant. A person in a browser and an AI agent go through the same abstraction, the same netcode and the same authority checks. Networking uses lightyear over WebTransport, so browser clients connect without plugins.

Why build it this way

If agents had a separate path into the world, every experiment run on it would measure that path as much as the agents. Making participants homogeneous at the engine level is what makes the Indistinguishability Benchmark meaningful, and it makes synthetic players usable for load and behaviour testing of interactive software.
